Joe Rotter, Red's Fly Shop

Joe Rotter is a long-time outfitter and guide at Red's Fly Shop in the Yakima Canyon. The diversity of the PNW fisheries has afforded him to achieve expertise in technical casting for trout, Euro Nymphing, spey casting, and warm water, and he also has a tremendous amount of tropical saltwater experience. His passion is helping others achieve local DIY success and maximize their international travel experience.

Russ Carpenter

Russ is a FFI Certified Casting Instructor from Northern California. At the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club (GGACC) in San Francisco, he instructs in both the single hand and spey programs. As a co-chair of the Fly Casting Skills Development program (FCSD), he is helping develop widespread training for broader roll-out and is passionate about instructor development and angler education. He credits a float trip with a friend (who was a guide) down the Teton River with re-igniting a childhood passion for fly fishing and tying.

Sarah Trenschel

Sarah is a FFI Certified Casting Instructor and co-chair of the Fly Casting Skills Development program. She has led FCSD rollouts at large events across the West Coast and helped develop a “Train the Facilitator” workshop to empower and support those that want to become FCSD Facilitators. At her home Club, the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club (GGACC) in San Francisco, she instructs in both the single hand and Spey programs. Regularly involved in casting instruction, Sarah is also a passionate angler and she especially admires coastal Steelhead and native trout in small streams. As an angler, she has completed the California Heritage Trout Challenge and her favorite species is the Coastal Cutthroat trout. 

Chuck Iossi, Onafly Casting Instruction

Chuck is a Fly Fishers International (FFI) Certified Casting Instructor with 15 seasons of experience fishing the Upper Snake River drainage with principal focus on the South Fork, Henry's Fork, and Teton Rivers. He is associate editor of FFI's The Loop Journal, Board of Directors President Emeritus Friends of the Teton River, and a member of Trout Unlimited. Chuck and Doc Frangos, MCI conduct multiple annual fly casting clinics at Teton Springs Golf and Casting Club in Victor, ID.

Rick Williams, Idaho Angler

Rick Williams is a third-generation Idaho native, a fishery scientist, an Affiliated Scholar at the College of Idaho, and an owner of Idaho Angler in Boise. Rick is also a Master Fly Casting Instructor (SH and TH) and lives in Eagle, Idaho with his wife Shauna and a fishing-obsessed black lab.

David Paul Williams, The Fishing Writer

David Paul Williams has written for American Angler, Fly Fisherman, Northwest Fly Fishing, Southwest Fly Fishing, American Fly Fishing, Eastern Fly Fishing, Fly Fusion, Bassmaster, Fly Fishing & Tying Journal, and Game & Fish magazines and wrote the book on smallmouth bass, Fly fishing for Western Smallmouth. He writes the Good-Gear Guide at good-gear-guide. blogspot.com and is the former Editor-In-Chief of Fly Fisher and Department Editor at Fly Fishing & Tying Journal. He gives entertaining media presentations to clubs and organizations on carp, smallmouth bass, saltwater beach fishing, panfish, and alpine trout. Also known for his simple, yet effective fly patterns, he has been fly fishing since he was ten years old.

Mike McLean

BVFF Mike knows many of the 400+ lakes that surround the McCall area. He’ll share different methods to access these lakes and will share his 2 MOST favorite methods, hiking and bike-packing deep into the backcountry. If you know nothing about bike packing, this will blow your mind! He’ll even share a few, but not all, of the secrets he has acquired over the years. You’ll understand why, after Mike’s upbringing in National Parks, why he’s so passionate about wild and remote areas.

Nate Brumley, Dry Fly Innovations

Nate Brumley is the owner of Dry Fly Innovations and the author of two cutting-edge dry fly books: Addicted to the Rise and Winter on a Dry Fly. The only bugs sold at DFI are dry flies, and he’s mastered the use of them in all seasons over all bodies of fresh water. Nate has never sunk a nymph or fished a streamer. His offering is 55-plus years’ experience fishing a dry fly exclusively. His presentations are rich in dry fly technique that includes video to connect the concepts. These lectures are some of the most sought-after events in the industry at present and his breadth of knowledge is truly phenomenal. It’s been said that one hour with Nate is like gaining 10 years of dry fly experience. Should you have the opportunity, to attend one or both of his presentations …it will change the way you dry fly fish forever.

Daniel Ritz, Swing The Fly / ANGLERS Fly Shop

Daniel Ritz (Boise, Idaho) is a steelhead junkie, wild fish advocate and all-things swung fly enthusiast. A career journalist turned outdoor writer, his work has been published by Patagonia, Swing The Fly, Backcountry Journal, Field and Stream, TROUT Magazine, Alaska Sporting Journal, and more. He is the Conservation Editor for Swing The Fly Magazine and is currently researching his first book, scheduled to be published summer of 2026.

Nick Jackson, Trout Creek Flies

Nick Jackson has been a licensed fishing guide since 2007. He grew up fishing the Provo and green rivers in Utah. He has guided in Alaska, Chile, Pyramid Lake Nevada, and the Green River Utah.

Scott Marchant, Hiking Idaho

Scott Marchant is a Boise-based guidebook author and landscape photographer. He currently has five hiking guidebooks in print including:

Troy Pearse, Outdoor Avenues

Troy Pearse is an Idaho Native who has been fishing since the day he was born and loves to fly fish for steelhead and trout. He has a special interest in aquatic entomology which led him to develop the Bugometer, a tool to help anglers match the hatch.  In 2019, Troy retired from HP, which has given him more time to enjoy all aspects of fly fishing including doing conservation projects with Boise Valley Fly Fishers as their Conservation Director.

5B Anglers

5B Anglers is a fishing club from the Wood River Valley.  We seek to create a fun, positive, supportive, and inclusive environment on and off the water through educational outreach, local conservation, outings, and projects. 

Brady Kallas

Born and raised in Northern California, Brady grew up fishing for trout on fisheries like Fall River, Lower Sacramento, and Hat Creek. Through high school, Brady focused his free time chasing striped bass, surf perch, and halibut from the surf while also swinging for steelhead on the Lost Coast. Brady has been with the Idaho Angler since 2020 through his time at Boise State, working the shop, teaching casting lessons and our “Fly Fishing 101” class, and completing his first guide season on the Boise and Owyhee Rivers. Brady became an FFI Certified Casting Instructor in 2021 and loves to talk fly lines and gear selection, come pick his brain the next time you’re in the shop!

Fly fishing has been a passion of mine and one I love to share. I am an eternal student of the sport and love every facet of the sport. As an educator I aim to teach other how to do this and make this amazing sport more accessible and approachable.

Tom Governale

After retiring from a successful 36+ year career in Parks & Recreation, Tom Governale joined the Idaho Angler Team in May of 2017 as a Customer Relations Specialist; Fly Fishing Guide; and Casting, Classroom, and Catching Instructor. Tom has been fishing since before memory and has no conscientiousness of ever not fishing and therefore believes that he was born a fisherman! He enjoys fishing for cold, warm and saltwater fish species; rivers and lakes; and for anything that swims. Although Tom enjoys all aspects of his work at the Idaho Angler, he especially enjoys teaching people how to catch fish! He believes that catching is the culmination of learning about equipment, knots, entomology, finding fish, hooking, playing, landing,handling and releasing fish, understanding weather and proper fishing etiquette. Tom will try to help you understand the many pieces of the fish catching puzzle............ and he believes that a little luck is also helpful!

Phil Hayes, Wilderness Lite Float Tubes 

Phil Hayes has 25 years of wilderness still water fly fishing experience including the past 20 years on remote lakes during multi-day hikes using ultralight gear including ultralight float tubes.

Shane Brownell, Cascade Anglers

Cascade Anglers is a Fly fishing outfitter based locally in southwest Idaho. As a branch of Cascade Raft & Kayak, Cascade Anglers specializes in primarily float-fishing trips on Idaho’s remote rivers and lakes. 

Tim Parrish, Hammett Valley Fishing Adventures 

Tim Parrish is the owner/operator of Hammett Valley Fishing Adventures. He spends over 100 days on the water each year and his trips range from smallmouth on the fly to conventional sturgeon fishing. If you are looking for an adventure, Tim’s your guy.

Kelly Palmer, Kootenai River Outfitters 

Kelly Palmer lives in Troy, Montana.   He has been a guide or outfitter on the Kootenai River in northwest Montana since 1997.
